Little Monkey and Friends

A peek into the life and happenings of my little monkeys.

Thanksgiving in Bermuda, 2011

This year, we stayed on the island for Thanksgiving. Luckily, several of our friends did too; so we celebrated the holiday together. What's better than a bunch of ex-pats getting together to stuff ourselves and give thanks for the good life?

We decided to host. Thirteen total - six adults, seven kids. Kid's table was fun to put together.

Look how nicely they were behaving.

The girls that help keep me sane.

Josh and Jeff - ladling out the first course.

The grown up table - pretty simple.

And there's Oscar under the table .. always hoping... always waiting...

The happy plate: turkey, mashed potatoes, cauliflower puree, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, creamed spinach, stuffing.

For dessert, there was both apple and pumpkin pie..

The kids dessert - turkey cupcakes

An honorary member of the clean-plate club.

The end of the evening said it all. Man and man's best friend. Of course I can't blame Thanksgiving for this pose. The two of them look like this every night.

Wow everything looks so yummy! Are your friends from the States, too? Is that the Bermuda style of setting a table with the fork to the right of the plate? Interesting!

K - omg, you made me laugh. The place setting is totally my husband. I asked him to set the tables with the linens and mats and glassware and kids place mats, etc.

Truth be told, I can NEVER remember the "proper" way to set a table re silverware. I've actually looked it up countless times, but... what can I say...

Anyway...It's highly unlikely the Queen will be coming to visit me any time soon. lol. I'm more into pretty colors and ease of use (meaning, I want the right utensils on the table to do the job, and a centerpiece that doesn't overwhelm so that you're peering over the thing... know what I mean?)

The friends are all Americans. They've all been on the island a little longer than us and have been wonderful in helping us adjust.

Looks like a wonderful time! I LOVE how the kids' table turned out. I almost never set the table, but when I'm feeling a little fancy a trick that's worked for me is "fork" and "left" both have 4 letters so those go together. It's one of those funny little things that just kinda stick with you.
Only couple more weeks until Christmas! Yay!!!

Haha, about your husband setting the table. I certainly didn't mean anything bad by that comment. I agree with you about shorter centerpieces, I like to be able to see the people while we talk. Nice to have other American friends to help with the transition. And, who knows, the Queen may make an appearance one day! hehe.

rizandt- fork and left, I'm going to use that with my kids. Years of waitressing all the way through grad school means I can set a table blindfolded. I also still gather empthy glasses barmaid-style, five splayed fingers:)
Sadaf, my family had a Thanksgiving meal in Ireland for me on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It's my favorite holiday. No present pressure, lots of grub.
The table looked lovely, as did the food.
