Tomorrow I bring in snack for preschool.

It helps that Valentine's Day is this week. Having an anchoring theme makes it easier to plan. Of course, you have to know your audience. I'm praying the three year olds will go easy on me. I'm giving them sugar, and pink. What more can they want?

I made "heart pounders." Pound cake cookies, heart-shaped, frosted and sprinkled.

Thanks everyone. I got the idea from Parents magazine, and modified it a bit. So easy to make. Not remotely healthy by any stretch, but very pretty. I used a very small cookie cutter so the portions are tiny.

Re: frosting. It's actually tinted vanilla frosting. And the recipe taught me something new. You're supposed to heat the frosting for a few seconds to melt it, then dip the cake into it to coat. It was a lot easier than trying to frost each individually with a knife. It also produced a smoother coat of frosting, which hardened after a minute to a pretty glaze. That kept the cake soft underneath.

I am definitely not cut out to be a pastry chef, but even I could handle this one.

you are so lucky that you are able to bring homemade treats into school! Our school doesn't allow it! We have to buy stuff already made from bakeries or grocery store. How did the little ones like the heart cakes?

P - they were a big hit! Except for my kid, everyone dove right into them. j ate his eventually, picking at it a little at a time. This child is the epitome of self restraint when it comes to food...even sweets. He does NOT get that from me.
